Given to me by my brother, on a mix tape, back in ’99. The background music in this is “Peace”, by Paul Kelly, on “Soundings in Film”. The “six inches in front of your face”, that’s where we Live. It’s the choices you make in that place that ultimately defines you, and, over time, the course of your life, until the end. So many of us have grand plans for “Out There” or “The Future”, but never really focus on what’s right in front of us, right now. Now… What are you gonna do?

Its not that complicated… the ” six inches in front of your face!!!”, if youve ever played football and played on the line theres (six inches of space) between you and the opposing offensive or defensive line. six inches seperates you from a violent clashing in an effort to stop an entire team from moving a ball 10 yards to a minimum of 6 inch intervals.

He demonstrates through his personal failures that life isnt about titles or materialistic things because when your old they are all gone or taken. What life is about is the struggle and the people to your left and right that are willing to “go that inch with you” he emphasizes like Dr Martin Luther King Jr did that “either we heal now as a team… or we will die as individuals”. Its more than football. Its life. I hope you see the message and that I helped.
Hes not talking about penises. He exemplifies through football and the struggle to gain inches towards a first down metaphorically as an analogy in comparison to the struggle of life as being “the six inches in front of your face!!!”. He emphasizes they acknowledge how, although they are the same team that they have divided themselves into a team within a team.
lol I saw this clip today at a meeting today and I had to watch it again to make sure I heard it right lol 3:23 what the heck is he talking about the six inches in front of your face…? I can’t make you do it wtf…??? seems sexually suggesttive to me I tried so hard not to laugh when I heard it today. Everyone says this speech is inspirational but it seems like he is talking about penises it’s hard to keep a straight face during the speech.
