Sorry, gentlemen, David “Deacon” Jones not in the top five? A horrible, egregious mistake.

If you had a name like Dick Butkus you’d grow up to be a tough mo-fo too. Much respect for these guys.

“I don’t understand why they say things like that” Geeeee Dick, it might have something to do when putting entire teams in the hospital !!!!

Had a chance to meet Mr. Butkus when I was a kid. My Dad had me so nervous about it since his reputation is what it is.
He was the coolest guy, and a regular joe. Met he and his family and he could of been any one of your fathers…, except he was famous. He never acted like a big shot. He got a kick out of me calling him “Mr. Butkus”.
I still have the autographed poster he gave me, and jersey.
He was big for LB for the time. I seem to remember him being around 6′ 3 + and every bit of 250.

@ArtOfRuin75 playing both sides is also known as Iron Man football. Chuck Bednarik is an example. He played Center and Middle linebacker.

    Great list, but where’s Nagurski?

  16. yohncolt on September 6th, 2010 8:03 am

Why isn’t Lee Roy Jordan or Derrick Thomas anywhere on this list?

  17. porterhouse on September 6th, 2010 8:03 am

@ViKiNgS4LiFe84 The Butkus fucked up Jim Brown comment… Jim Brown wore number 32 not number 30. To reiterate, the greatest rb of all time wore number 32. The more you know.
