According to a recent report from Goal, former Chelsea and Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa has been offered a new €3 million-per-year contract with Benfica.
Costa is well known for being one of the most polarising forwards of his generation but he’s also highly regarded as quite the finisher. We all know that the positives come with the negatives with someone like Costa, but even in this next phase of his career, nobody can deny just how impactful he has the potential to be.
Benfica are attempting to find their footing in Portuguese football right now and their hope is that Costa can provide them with the sort of high level experience that’ll make them flourish in the final third.
It’s surprising to see few other clubs go after the 32-year-old given how much he could still have left to offer, but maybe the risk is greater than the reward for them.
