Man United must avoid Donnarumma buy

Manchester United keep bizarrely getting linked with big-money moves for goalkeepers – the latest to be linked with a switch to Old Trafford is AC Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma.
It is claimed by The Metro that due to the difficulty in prising Jan Oblak out of Atletico Madrid that the Red Devils have instead turned their attentions to the Italian.
It’s a move that makes little sense, especially with the wealth of goalkeeping options that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer already has at Old Trafford.
Who should start in goal for Manchester United?
Since arriving at Manchester United from Atletico Madrid, David de Gea has firmly established himself as the team’s No.1. He has continually impressed, with 153 of his 434 Red Devils’ appearances ending in a clean sheet.
In recent years, Dean Henderson has also managed to forge his reputation whilst on-loan with Sheffield United. He is now firmly in contention at Old Trafford and is deputising whilst de Gea spends time in Spain following the birth of his child.
It makes little sense then that the Red Devils would move for a goalkeeper considering that they have two more than capable options already at the club.
Of course, this could be offset by the departure of either Henderson or De Gea, however, with reports by The Express indicating that the Red Devils are concerned about the prospect of selling the Spaniard, that seems unlikely.
Available on a free transfer come the end of the campaign but rated at £54m, it would be difficult to argue that the signing of Donnarumma wouldn’t be incredible value for money, especially with the likes of Paolo Maldini labelling him as a “diamond”.
Nevertheless, with no place for the Italian in the squad, a move should really be avoided by Woodward – for the near future at the very least.
