‘One of the toughest to beat’

Moving on from Tuchel’s third stalemate of the season against Leeds United, Stamford Bridge welcomes Diego Simeone and his men in what is promised to be a tight encounter.

Thomas Tuchel’s unbeaten streak has now extended to twelve games and the Spanish giants march into London hoping to turn the 1-0 deficit around – credit to Oliver Giroud’s spectacular bicycle kick in the final minutes of the first leg.

Ahead of the second leg, the Chelsea boss spoke in the pre-match press conference and elaborated few topics of discussion, in quotes picked up by football.london.

When quizzed about the kind of game he expects at the Bridge, Tuchel commented:

“I expect more or less the same as in Bucharest. They have Trippier, Carrasco and Gimenez back. In general, I expect more or less the same, a team that is hard to play against, find spaces behind the last lines and for sure super hard to create chances against.”

Atletico Madrid played a defensive game in the 1st leg. Tuchel expects no less of his Spanish counterparts going front. Speaking of the Rojiblancos’ style of play, he said:

“I believe that every club has it’s DNA and characteristics. With Simeone they are one of the toughest teams to beat, this is their characteristic, discipline and hard-working and organized defense. They have incredible quality to attack and to play a possession game, they are a complete squad.”

Chelsea are one of the three English teams seeking European success. The second leg of the UEFA Champions League last 16 is bound to witness an enthralling encounter in London.

Tuchel’s men will look to extend their unbeaten run to thirteen games, the only way Chelsea are going to progress to the quarter-finals.
