Real Madrid – La Liga
Opinion of Raul Varela
NOTIs Erling Haaland or Kylian mbappe should be above real Madridlist this summer. Next year’s Galactico must be Zinedine Zidane.
It’s clear to me, although I’m not sure it will eventually come to pass. But the future of the coach aside, his merits are beyond doubt.
His greatest achievement has to be the number of critics that have gathered around him. It is often said that a man’s height is measured by his enemies, and Zidane has a lot of them.
They say he’s right there because of his reputation, that he just picks teams more than coaching them and, best of all, that with such good players everyone would win.
Yet the most laughable finger pointing at Zidane is that he only beat Liverpool because they are in their worst fate under Jurgen klopp.
He doesn’t build anything either, he doesn’t change the game, he also doesn’t have a strategy, nor does he trust the academy, they say.
I can think of many great coaches of all types who were the best footballers in their time, but few, if any, have become as well connected to a team and an institution as real Madrid where being good is not presumed, it is demonstrated.
It builds credibility. What Zidane says goes. This shows in the performance of Lucas Vazquez, a winger by trade giving his life for the coach at right-back. Then there’s Nacho, who gives his heart and soul to Real Madrid.
Tell me a better national team player than those two and, above all, who compete at this level like them.
Zidane, with countless injury issues, calmly picked Eder Militao, heated some popcorn as you went Toni Kroos next to Luka Modric and even managed to get the “ junior ” out of Vinicius Junior.
On top of that, he gave the overrated Jurgen Klopp a tactical lesson.
With or without Mohamed salahthe shoulder, Liverpool were second best.
I will tell you what Florentino Perez should think: his first ‘galactico’ for next season has to be Zidane.
