Tottenham are reportedly ready to use a Spanish giant’s interest in Davinson Sanchez to lure one of Jose Mourinho’s main center-backs this summer.
Sanchez started Spurs’ last nine games in the Premier League but arguably had their worst game of the season in the weekend’s draw at Newcastle. The Colombian was instrumental in both goals as Steve Bruce’s side snatched a late draw on Tyneside.
Its shaky display has once again led to rumors that Tottenham will sell their old signing record this summer.
One of the clubs known for his signing is the LaLiga Sevilla formation who, coincidentally, have one of Mourinho’s main targets in their ranks.
Brazilian central defender Diego Carlos moved to Spain from French formation Nantes in 2019. He was part of the winning team of the Europa League Sevilla in 2019-20.
The 28-year-old has established himself as one of the best defenders in Spanish football. And this despite the tendency to give penalties in big games.
While this is a similar trait to Sanchez, Carlos would be seen as an improvement over the current Spurs star.
Tottenham’s defensive weaknesses this season have led to a number of points lost from winning positions. To that end, Mourinho has made the addition of a new center-back his top priority in the off-season.
Inter Milan Milan Skriniar remains his favorite choice, while the Southampton star Jannik Vestergaard is a more affordable option.
However, Carlos is very much on Mourinho’s radar, according to the Spanish newspaper. The reason. The fact that Sevilla want Sanchez is a huge added bonus.

Carlos’s release clause a big deal
The main issue for the north London club is Brazil’s release clause – which is set at £ 64million.
However, Spurs may well be able to negotiate those fees if Sevilla accept Sanchez as part of the deal.
The Spanish side are also concerned that Jules Kounde will quit this summer, along with Manchester United’s main contenders.
If Kounde leaves, then Sanchez appears to be Sevilla’s No.1 option to replace him – giving Spurs hope of luring Carlos.
The center-back’s performance this season has played a major role in Sevilla as he climbs into the top four in Spain, where he currently sits eight points behind leaders Atletico Madrid.
