Manchester United are reportedly pushing to seal the transfer of RB Leipzig center-back and Liverpool’s best target Ibrahima Konate.
According to Todo Fichajes, the Red Devils have spoken to Leipzig about a potential deal, but Liverpool are also reportedly making the Frenchman a priority target.
The report adds that Konate will likely cost the Bundesliga giants around € 40m this summer, in what looks like a potentially smart venture.
Konate has impressed with Leipzig and looks to be able to do well at an even bigger club, with Man Utd and Liverpool undoubtedly in need of strengthening in defense this summer.
Jurgen Klopp has suffered a nightmare season of injuries, and Konate could be a better long-term option than Joel Matip and Joe Gomez.
United, meanwhile, may see the 21-year-old as a superior option to Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly as Harry Maguire’s long-term partner.
Expect plenty of twists and turns with this transfer saga, however, with Eurosport also claiming Konate to be a target for United, but as one of many other potential options in this position.
Todo Fichajes suggests that MUFC interest is stronger and that contact has already been made about a deal, and they also state that Liverpool are keen on signing him.
However, it was also claimed that LFC had changed their minds about Konate signing and informed his club that they would not sue him, according to Bild, as translated by the Daily Express.
