Chelsea and Manchester City are among a selection of Premier League clubs watching Mahmoud Dahoud, the Borussia Dortmund midfielder set to enter the final year of his contract this summer.
Dahoud joined Dortmund from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2017, putting pen to paper on a five-year contract upon his arrival.
However, that contract expires in June 2022 and as a result the 25-year-old may have a selection of suitors waiting to take him over this summer.
According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea and Manchester City are two such clubs, in addition to Premier League rivals Everton and Tottenham. The report says the quartet are ‘keeping an eye’ on Dahoud, with Chelsea and City having already expressed interest in 2017 when the midfielder chose to sign for Dortmund.
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has also had a track record of Dahoud, having been in charge of Dortmund when the club struck a deal to sign Gladbach’s Germany international in a € 12million deal. in March 2017 – seeing the interest of Liverpool and Barcelona to secure his signature.
However, Tuchel would never get the chance to deal with Dahoud, as he was sacked by Dortmund in May 2017.
Dahoud has struggled for regular playing time for most of his time with Dortmund due to injuries and the competition for midfield spots for the German squad. The 23 Bundesliga appearances he made in his first season remain the best he has achieved during his time with the club.
Although Dahoud was initially used sparingly by interim head coach Edin Terzic, he forced himself to join the team in February and his impressive form coincided with Dortmund’s resumption of fortune. BVB have won four of the six recent matches the midfielder has started, securing their place in the Champions League quarter-finals.
