Barcelona and Real Madrid target the Bundesliga defender

Barcelona and Real Madrid are looking to transfer to RB Leipzig’s center back, Ibrahima Konate, Spain’s AS website reported.
Konate joined RB Leipzig from Sochaux in 2017. Since then, he has enjoyed reasonable success on the German team despite several problems due to injury, and reached the Champions League semi-finals last season.
His performances with Die Roten Bullen attracted the attention of many clubs across Europe, especially in the English Premier League. Back in February, it was reported that three of the biggest English clubs were vying for his signature.
The 21-year-old is now linked with a move to La Liga, as AS reported that Barcelona and Real Madrid are both looking for his services.
The article claims that Konate has a clearance clause of € 45 million. However, RB Leipzig might accept a much lower sum of around € 30m.
Real Madrid may be desperate in search of a new center back this summer. With only a few months remaining on his current contract, the captain and club legend, Sergio Ramos, has yet to agree to a new deal. He has been linked with a move to Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.
Meanwhile, it is also rumored that World Cup winner Rafael Varane will leave the Bernabeu. The Frenchman has yet to sign a new contract at Los Blancos, with reports indicating that he may be allowed to transfer at the end of the season.
Any chase for Real Madrid on Konate will likely depend on the future of Ramos and Varane, as well as their attempts to sign willing Bayern Munich defender David Alaba.
Meanwhile, Barcelona can make do with a new defender before next season. Gerard Pique is now 34 years old and has just returned from a long-term injury.
Meanwhile, Clement Lenglet’s performance has declined, and Samuel Umtiti appears largely unwanted with coach Ronald Koeman.
At La Blaugrana there are youngsters Oscar Mengesa and Ronald Araujo who are making an impression, but they will need more options in defense – especially considering they are now playing with three central defenders in a 3-5-2 formation.
However, the Catalan giants have other cannons on their radar. Newly elected president Joan Laporta appears to have vowed to compete with Real Madrid for Alaba, while young Eric Garcia has been closely linked with Manchester City by moving to Camp Nou for a long time.
