The Daily Mail reports that Manchester City are in the center stage to sign Aston Villa star Jack Grealish.
Grealish came through the academy at Aston Villa, and made his Premier League debut with the club on May 7, 2014. Since then he has made more than 200 appearances for the Midlands, scoring 32 goals.
This season the Englishman has emerged as one of the most creative players in the division. He has scored ten assists in the Premier League this season – a number surpassed only by Harry Kane and Kevin De Bruyne. Additionally, he also scored six goals, which made him the second joint goal scorer for Aston Villa.
As a result of his level, Grealish has been constantly linked to a distance from Villa Park. Man City is the latest club to be mentioned as a potential matchmaker for the playmaker, as the Daily Mail reports that they are now leading their signature chase.
Citizens are currently 14 points ahead of the table, with ambitions to win an unprecedented four-way. Adding a grilish-quality player to an already exciting squad would be scary.
However, question marks remain over whether they will really need it. Man City already has a lot of game makers on their side, such as Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez, Bernardo Silva, Raheem Sterling and Ferran Torres. Unless some of these players leave, Grealish is unlikely to come to the Union.
Moreover, Pep Guardiola’s priorities in the transfer market are likely to lie elsewhere. The club is almost certainly looking for a new striker, as Sergio Aguero is not expected to renew his contract.
Grealish has also been linked to arch-rival Manchester United in the past. It remains to be seen if the Red Devils will return for him, but that may depend on the outcome of their long pursuit of Jadon Sancho.
