Experts tear Tottenham to shreds, suggest Kane will leave after EL exit

Glenn Hoddle and Peter Crouch have traveled to Tottenham for ‘lack of desire’ on their exit from the Europa League – and believe defeat could lead to star man Harry Kane leaving.

Leading 2-0 in the first leg against Dinamo Zagreb, Tottenham seemed to be a safe bet to progress.

However, a great hat trick from Mislav Orsic has reserved Zagreb’s place in the quarter-finals and ensured one of the worst nights in recent Tottenham history.

Mourinho gave a brutally honest assessment after the game and admitted his players were second best.

However, there was absolutely no hold back from BT Sport experts Crouch and Hoddle, who tore their old sides to shreds.

“Too many people have had a day off. There is no desire, no leadership ”, Hoddle lamented. “There was nothing from Tottenham – they all left each other. It was shameful.

“They have to look at each other. There was no desire and they were just nervous. They lost the plot, but they also lost their hearts. Sometimes in games like this you have to make their own luck – a game here and there – but they didn’t. There was no heart and they made no effort.

“Getting beaten 3-0 against a very average team – Orsic was amazing tonight by the way – but they did it by a very average team. They will find out on the return plane.

Squat, meanwhile, wondered if even a League Cup win would be enough to save Mourinho. He claimed that even winning at Wembley would be like hiding the cracks. He also believes that the team has “retreated” under the Portuguese.

“They have a League Cup final now, but even if they win it, are Spurs fans going to be happy with it?” Crouch wondered. “It’s another season of nothing where they fell back.

“They looked like they just went there expecting to pass. But they started badly and Zagreb developed there. They got what they deserved.

Crouch says Kane at a career crossroads

When asked if Mourinho will be sacked, Crouch said the most perennial question should be about captain and talisman Kane.

“The last two games, tonight and the derby [defeat to Arsenal], their season hangs by a thread.

“Look at Harry Kane. He’s a Champions League player – he shouldn’t even be in this competition. [Kylian] Mbappe, [Erling] Haaland, [Lionel] Messi, [Robert] Lewandowski – he’s at their level. Look at him now, walking painfully with his outfit curved. No matter Mouirnho, he [Kane] is now at a real career crossroads. He should play all the way up.

When asked again about Mourinho, Crouch suggested that all hope is not lost on Mourinho.

“He was brought in to win a trophy, but if he does, it’s a job done in a way, given their expectation. It could be a springboard. But they’re miles away from that and a top four ranking and questions will be asked first.
