Ibrahimovic on Milan’s future: can’t say anything about next season

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has declined to discuss his future at Milan after the club left the Europa League at Manchester United on Thursday.

Ibrahimovic came off the bench in the 65th minute but couldn’t inspire Milan to victory – the Rossoneri losing 1-0 on the night and 2-1 on aggregate to United.

The 39-year-old has been a key figure for Milan this season, scoring 16 goals, including 14 in Serie A to help the Italian giants take second place in the standings and nine points behind their city rival. ‘Inter.

Ibrahimovic, who turns 40 in October, is out of contract at the end of the season and has previously declined to give an overview of his plans beyond the 2020-2021 campaign.

“If we get into the Champions League that’s good too, but the goal is to win a trophy,” Ibrahimovic told Sky Sport Italia after the game.

“I can’t say anything about next season, all I know is I’m here right now.”

Ibrahimovic, who returned to the Swedish squad before the postponement of 2020 after retiring in 2016, felt Milan did not deserve to be eliminated by former club United.

“There is a big disappointment, because we did very well on both sets, we made a mistake and conceded a goal,” said Ibrahimovic, who spent two years at Old Trafford before joining LA Galaxy in 2018.

“We should have taken more of our chances. We didn’t deserve to go out today, but that’s football. You learn from negative times and use them to grow. We are moving forward and the season is not over.

“We have to come back stronger in Serie A, learn from our mistakes and keep improving. I want to play to win something, we are second and have to continue like this to try to win the Scudetto.

Milan will return to Serie A on Sunday, visiting Fiorentina.
