Paul Pogba receives immense praise from his manager and fiercest critics

There were a lot of heroes for Manchester United at San Siro last night but one man in particular turned the game for the Red Devils: substitute Paul Pogba.

United have recovered from a failed last-minute AC Milan equalizer in the first leg of their Europa League clash and a dismal first-half performance in that game, devoid of ideas , intensity and belief.

Barely returning from a six-week layoff, the Frenchman was not fit enough to start the game, but he hit the ground running after replacing Marcus Rashford at half-time, scoring in all three minutes after restarting and dictating the entire second half with a display. of strength, creativity, intelligence and hard work.

“We missed Paul,” said master of understatement, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

“ He’s been out for almost two months and any team would miss a player like Paul Pogba. He is very important to us and he will give us a big boost. It makes a huge difference.

“Paul must of course put football back into his system. You can see what he gives us when he’s on the pitch, ” the boss said MUTV.

“Technically, he’s one of the best footballers in the world. It was a very good niche.

Pogba’s brilliant performance also impressed some of England’s top football journalists.

“ Not that long ago, Manchester United fans were lining up to offer to pack Paul Pogba’s suitcases for him, ” said The telegraphIt’s James Ducker.

Tired of his attempts to force a start and his continued inability to live up to his reputation on the pitch, many had decided the club were better off without him.

‘What the future holds for Pogba as he nears the final year of his contract at Old Trafford is unclear but there is unlikely to be a rush to push him out the door now.

“ The French midfielder had played some of his best football games in a United shirt before an injury stopped him in his tracks, but he only needed three minutes on his return after a lack of six weeks to reverse this game – and draw – against. AC Milan three days after celebrating its 28th anniversary.

“ Pogba’s arrival on the pitch was akin to a skilled surgeon retrieving a knife from a trembling intern and calmly stepping him away from impending problems. ”

The temperature“Paul Hirst was also adulatory.

It was Pogba who provided the spark, leadership and motivation to reverse that tie.

Equally encouraging for Solskjaer was the fact that Pogba covered quite a bit of ground. He came back to help Shaw, did some deep runs and got the ball back. This version of Pogba is well worth pushing the boat to keep him at the club beyond the end of next season, when his contract expires.

Pogba is in many ways like the team he plays for; unpredictable and mercurial. Brilliant and able to beat anyone in the world one minute, seemingly selfless, lazy and frustrating the next. If Solskjaer can find the key to getting more of the first and less of the second from both his star and his side, then it’s impossible to say how far they can go together.
