Barcelona will face Chelsea in the final of the Champions League for women, after the bracket of Lieke Martens gave them a 2: 1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday.
The results were at 1-1 after the first match in France last weekend, as Barça finished the work in the first half.
Martens’ first goal came just eight minutes later. After 26 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by Leila Ouahabi might have resulted in another goal for PSG.
Half an hour later, Barcelona was celebrating again. This time, Martens arrived at the back beam at the right time to transform Caroline Hansen’s former cross.
Just three minutes later, Les Parisiennes shortened his lead to one through Marie-Antoinette Katoto, who forced the ball over the line after talking at the door.
After the break, Barcelona insisted on a new goal to completely kill the game. Jenny Hermoso – who scored in the first game – required a good save 20 minutes from time, while Martha Torrejon also approached. Meanwhile, PSG struggled to reunite with Barcelona, which they wanted to win.
The Blaugrana will face Chelsea in the Champions League final after the Blues sent Bayern Munich to the other semi-final. Fran Kirby grabbed the brace for the Blues, while Ji So-yun and Pernil Harder also scored to cancel a fine strike by Sarah Zadrazil.
Neither Chelsea nor Barcelona have won the race before. The Blues could even secure a double in the Champions League this season. Their men are currently in the pole position, entering the second match of the semifinal against Real Madrid, providing a decisive away goal in the 1-1 draw last Tuesday.
