Raphael Varane has been kicked out of Real Madrid Champions League semi-final second leg against Chelsea with muscle injury.
The French had to come against Osasuna after feeling some distress, and testing confirmed the injury was severe enough to rule him out for the trip to Stamford Bridge.
This comes as another defensive blow for Zinedine Zidane, which is already without Lucas Vazquez and Dani Carvajal, while Sergio Ramos and Ferland Mendy are still doubtful.
“After tests carried out today on our player Raphael Varane by the medical services of Real Madrid, he was diagnosed with an injury to the right abductor muscles,” reads the report from the Los Blancos medical team.
Madrid had not been optimistic about Varane’s availability on Sunday as an ultrasound showed a bruise and a clear muscle injury.
The only positive news for Zidane when it comes to his defense is that Ramos and Mendy formed with the group on Monday.
Still, Varane’s injury comes at the worst possible time, ahead of the biggest game of the season so far.
