Borussia Dortmund official Sebastian Kell has expressed confidence that superstar striker Erling Halland will continue to play for the club next season, despite interest in the 20-year-old Norwegian wonder from many of Europe’s biggest countries.
Haaland has scored 53 goals in 56 appearances since joining Dortmund less than 18 months ago, on top of 28 of 22 games for Red Bull Salzburg in the first half of last season. This return of goals has made him the most coveted striker in world football, liking Real Madrid, Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United, Barcelona and Juventus following him.
Haaland is believed to have a € 75 million release clause that will take effect next year. But while Dortmund could have sold much more than that limited figure this summer, the Bundesliga side do not seem to want to let him go yet and are confident they will stay.
“I understand that Erling Haaland will play for Borussia Dortmund in the new season. Erling completely agrees. I see him every day and I can say that he completely identifies with the club, “said Kel, who is the head of football of the first team, in front of the German television operator Sport1.
Dortmund remained firm last summer when Manchester United tried to sign Jaden Sancho and did not give up on a bonus. The Old Trafford club hopes that Sancho will be available less than this this summer, while it is rumored that Dortmund, which is facing a shortage of money due to the coronavirus pandemic and is still at risk of not qualifiers for the Champions League are more likely to sell Sancho if that means keeping Haaland.
Superagent Mino Raiola, who represents Haaland, admitted in a recent interview with AS that Dortmund had firmly told him that the player was not for sale this summer, although he hinted whether this position would continue until the transfer window closes in September.
“He has to tell me when all things are clear in my head and I can make a menu and put it on his plate: we have this, this and this … but we can’t yet,” Rayola explained.
“What we know today is that Dortmund spoke to us very seriously and told us not to sell. That’s what they said. Now you need to see if this desire exists until September 1. “
