Parma’s relegation to Serie B was confirmed on Monday with a 1-0 defeat in Turin.
The Gialloblu are 19th in Serie A with 20 points to their name and can no longer catch 17th Cagliari, who is 12 ahead.
Although Parma have four games to go, Cagliari has a superior head-to-head record thanks to a spectacular 4-3 win last month.
Given that Cagliari still have Benevento – who is 18th – to play, Parma had to win in Turin to have a chance to escape the last three.
Mergim Vojvoda’s goal after 63 minutes made the difference as the visitors attempted 10 shots but only once hit the target.

This is Parma’s first relegation since the club was reborn in 2015 following bankruptcy.
They were promoted in 2016, 2017 and 2018 and then improved their Serie A standings in their first two years in the top flight before this season’s setback.
Crotone, two points below Parma, has already been demoted, leaving only one place to be decided.
