Roma unveil Jose Mourinho as new manager for 2021/22 season

Roma have announced that Jose Mourinho will take over as manager for the 2021/22 season.

The Roma have led a disappointing campaign. They are almost guaranteed to miss a place in the top six and came out of Coppa Italia in the round of 16 for Spezia.

They also appear determined to leave the Europa League in the semi-finals, having lost the first leg 6-2 to Manchester United.

Fonseca to leave Roma at the end of the season

It has been announced that current manager Paulo Fonseca is due to leave the club at the end of the season, after two years at the helm.

And now the club have revealed via Twitter that Jose Mourinho will take over from the start of next season.

The Portuguese have just come out of a disappointing period at Tottenham Hotspur. He left the club in seventh place, after suffering an embarrassing Europa League round of 16 exit at Dinamo Zagreb, after winning the first leg 2-0.

In fact, Spurs were the first club he failed to win silverware since Uniao de Leiria in 2002. He helped guide the Lilywhites to the Carabao Cup final, but was sacked less than ‘a week before the match.

The former Chelsea boss is ready for his second stint in Serie A. His first was with Inter Milan from 2008 to 2010, and it was arguably the peak of his managerial career.

Mourinho wins Champions League with Inter Milan

At the San Siro, Mourinho has had incredible success. He won the Serie A title in his first season and followed it up with a hat-trick in the next campaign, beating Bayern Munich in the Champions League final thanks to a brace from Diego Milito.

At his new club, his first task will likely be to bring the club back into the top six, as well as contesting honors. Roma haven’t won a trophy since Coppa Italia in 2008 and haven’t won a league title since 2001.
