Lacazette’s future doubt

There is a big question mark over Alexandre Lacazette’s future, as Eddie Nketiah’s contract expires in 2022. Neither is close to signing extensions with West Ham who would be very attached to the latter.

Lacazette’s contract in the Emirates also expires in the summer of 2022 and the forward admitted that talks have been strained.

Last month Lacazette said: “My plan is to win a trophy with the club this season and it would be easy for me to claim to have a contract extension.

“Everything is not only on my side, there is also the club, the manager. There are different things we need to think about.

“I don’t think this is a good time to talk about it.”

To complicate matters, the forward is also currently sidelined with a hamstring injury. He hasn’t played for the Gunners since limping in the draw with Fulham on April 18.

Mikel Arteta said Lacazette was unlikely to be involved against Villarreal on Thursday.

And speaking in April, Arteta said: “The situation with Laca will be settled this summer.

“I’m going to talk to him and just come up with a future we want and that’s it.

“Now I just want the players to be focused and only focused on performance and getting the most out of it for the team.”
