Hugo Broos was confirmed today (Wednesday) as the new head coach of Bafana Bafana on Wednesday following the dismissal of Molefi Ntseki.
The 69-year-old Belgian, who won the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations with Cameroon in Gabon, will be tasked with trying to lead the team to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The qualifiers were due to start in June, but an AFP report said on Tuesday that the African Football Confederation was to postpone the opening qualifiers until September.
This will at least give Broos more time to prepare the squad for the road ahead, with a tough group containing Zimbabwe, Ghana and Ethiopia, and only the group winners will advance to the final qualifying round for world Cup.
Broos did well to take Cameroon without many star names for CAN glory in 2017, beating Egypt in the final in Libreville.
