Fikayo Tomori’s transfer saga made up headlines regularly when Frank Lampard was in-charge. Now, he taking huge steps in Italy to establish himself as a world-class defender.
AC Milan secured the loan move from Chelsea until the end of the current Serie A season, with an option to buy.
Milan’s Technical Director Paolo Maldini, who knows the club better than anyone, was instrumental in luring the Englishman.
Speaking to Sky Sport Italia, in quotes picked up by DailyMail, Maldini said:
“He is quick, hard-working and was someone we were following closely with January in mind. Fikayo is a player with interesting qualities. The deal contains an option to sign him from Chelsea. I’m lucky to work in a club where if a player knows we want them, it makes an impact.
We might not have won anything at European level for 14 years, but Milan is still a historic club.”
Former England & Milan coach Fabio Capello himself spoke highly of the former Derby defender.
“He is a very good player, and Milan are lucky to have such a quick defender,” he said.
Fikayo Tomori’s rise at Milan has been sudden so far. He has settled with ease, given how Serie A has always dealt with a lack of incoming English players. The centre-back made only one appearance in the Premier League this season, whereas now, he has gone on to make 5 appearances in Serie A already. (transfermarkt)
Two of AC Milan’s greatest figures have already praised him for his initial exploits at San Siro.
The Rossoneri have a €25m purchase option they would want to exercise if they wish to hold onto a future world-class defender. It is unfortunate for the Blues to have parted ways with Tomori just days before Tuchel took charge.
