Manchester United’s prospects of landing Erling Haaland this summer appear to be over after a report strongly dismissed their chances of a deal.
Haaland is a man in demand thanks to his outstanding goalscoring form over the past couple of years. Since joining Borussia Dortmund in January 2020, he has an astonishing 47 goals from 47 games.
Touted by many as a possible future Ballon d’Or winner, Haaland is expected to continue his rapid rise. That means he is unlikely to stay at Dortmund forever.
He has a release clause that will be active in 2022, allowing clubs to sign him for a price of £66m. However, Dortmund could cash in this summer with a number of top clubs hovering with intent.
Indeed, reports in Germany recently claimed Haaland would only consider a move to six clubs in Europe, with suitors Chelsea not on that list.
And while Manchester United are, the Daily Mail claims they are no longer in the running for two major factors.
As per the article, neighbours Manchester City are prepared to spend £90m to sign Haaland this summer. But with the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona also keen, it’s claimed United are reluctant to enter a bidding war for the player.
It’s believed that City could blow them away in that regards when push comes to shove. Furthermore, having missed his signing for just £19.5m in January 2020, there’s only so far the club are willing to go.
The second factor involves his agent Mino Raiola. The Mail claims sour relations with the super-agent, who also manages Paul Pogba, will dissuaded United from making an approach.
Indeed, the paper claims the apathy between Raiola and United will more than likely ensure the agent pushes his client elsewhere.
That’s despite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sending a timely reminder this week over his relationship with the former Molde man.

Haaland warned not to join Man City
Indeed, the Mail claims it is City who are most likely to land the striker. They claim Raiola is prepared to bury the hatchet with Pep Guardiola to ensure the deal goes through. That dates back to a falling out between Guardiola and another of Raiola’s client, Zlatan Ibrahimovic. That happened during their time together at Barcelona.
Despite that, former City midfielder Dietmar Hamann has told Haaland that City wouldn’t suit his style.
“I don’t think Haaland is a Manchester City player. I can’t see him joining Man City and I’m not sure whether City will be interested in him,” Hamann told Stadium Astro.
“Pep [Guardiola] has got rid of some centre-forwards in the past. The way they play, they like to pass the ball around. I’m not sure whether Haaland would suit Man City or fit in there.
“At Manchester United, they have so many quick players and like to counter-attack. I think Haaland will suit United a lot better than City.
“Can United get him in the summer? I think there might be a situation in the summer if Dortmund miss out on the Champions League, where they might have to sell Haaland and [Jadon] Sancho. I think they could both go in the summer.”
