Edouard Mendy’s world-class fingertip save denies Leeds the opener – Talk Chelsea

Edouard Mendy has etched himself as the No.1 between the posts, displacing Kepa Arrizabalaga. Tuchel has so far used Mendy in all the matches as the starting goalkeeper, except one – when Kepa was chosen ahead of Mendy for the Newcastle United encounter.
It was Mendy once again against Leeds United. As Leeds tried to reciprocate the pressure Chelsea put in the starting ten minutes, Tyler Roberts came within inches of opening the score line. The 15th minute saw Andreas Christensen lose possession by gifting a pass straight to in-form Leeds star Raphinha and the ball subsequently fell into striker Tyler Roberts’s path.
He tried to pick the top-right corner with a curler of a ball. The 6’5” tall Senegal shot-stopper leaped as high as he could to deny a deadlock opener with a fingertip save.
The world-class save prompted the ball to hit the top of the crossbar before going on into play. It kept the scoreline intact for both the teams heading into half-time.
Take a bow, Mendy!
