Arsenal have reportedly decided to pay around € 60million to seal Martin Odegaard’s permanent move from Real Madrid.
The 22-year-old has made a good start to life on loan at Arsenal since moving in January, and it seems clear he could be a superb long-term addition to Mikel Arteta’s squad.
After letting Mesut Ozil go in January, an attacking midfielder like Odegaard makes sense as a priority for Arsenal, and it looks like they are convinced enough of him to pay big to keep him, according to Don Balon.
The Norway international is unlikely to play regularly at the Bernabeu due to competition in Zinedine Zidane’s squad, and it could be a major opportunity for Arsenal.
Don Balon also suggests that Odegaard himself doesn’t feel like returning to Real Madrid just to be a replacement again.
Overall, it looks promising for the Gunners, who might be content to continue to strengthen this team after a disappointing season.
Arsenal legend Michael Thomas is certainly an Odegaard fan, recounting Caught offside: “Odegaard was great,” he added. “He works extremely hard for the team and connects the game between the lines.
“He can alternate with large men and seems to have a great understanding of the game at such a young age.”
