Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Joey Pelupessy was one of several Owls stars to drop Darren Moore this week.
The Yorkshire giants ended a seven-game losing streak with a 1-1 draw against local rivals at Hillsborough Stadium, but that leaves them still nine points safe with just ten games to go.
Callum Paterson was brought in as one of three changes on the hour, although his sole involvement saw him put the ball past his own goalkeeper for the crucial Huddersfield equalizer.
He didn’t know, but in the end it cost the owls dearly. The Scotsman is not to be blamed, however.
Pelupessy was arguably the worst player on the pitch, scoring 6.6 from SofaScore – second worst of all home starters.
Should Pelupessy get a new contract?
It was quite surprising to see the Dutchman stay in the starting XI under Moore with starting starlet Liam Shaw sitting on the bench, but maybe the 46-year-old is keeping an eye on next season, and we know that the ace linked to Celtic will. don’t be here regardless of which division the owls are in.
Therefore, it is important for Pelupessy to deliver. He’s out of a contract at the end of the current campaign, so he’s pretty much playing for his future on Wednesday.
The £ 12.5,000-a-week midfielder cop struggled to influence against the Terriers.
According to SofaScore, Pelupessy managed just 40 touches of the ball in his 90 minutes on the pitch. It was much worse than his midfielder partner Barry Bannan (62) and not too far behind striker Keiren Westwood (45).
As the person who is supposed to dictate the game, he should definitely be more involved than the goalie.
The 27-year-old also struggled in his battles, winning just one of five duels (20%), while he was also dribbled twice, meaning the opposition – namely Lewis O ‘ Brien and Jonathan Hogg – absolutely dominated him.
His passenger-like presence would have helped keep visitors in the game somewhat, and he certainly didn’t offer much for the future, as longtime passenger Owls only performed 28 assists, none of which turned into key opportunities.
Pelupessy massively dropped Moore and Wednesday last night.
