Western United 2-0 Newcastle Jets: Pierias are on target to win home win

Western United recorded a 2-0 victory over the Newcastle Jets on Monday – their second triumph over the A-League matches in April.

A Lachlan Wales goal in the first minute of the case had secured United a 1-0 win at McDonald Jones Stadium on 5 April.

Wales were involved in an early opening again at AAMI Park and sent a low cross that Newcastle captain Nikolai Topor-Stanley stuck into his own net in the 12th minute.

Dylan Pierias tapped a second for the hosts midway through the second half and converted from close range after good work from substitute Aaron Calver down United’s right flank.

The Jets had 13 attempts but managed to hit the target with only three of them. Their winless run is now on 10 games stretching back to a 1-0 win over Melbourne Victory on 21 February as they sit at the bottom.

As for United, they move into the top six of the table and still have games in hand on the teams above them apart from leaders Melbourne City.
