As Helder Costa continues to disappoint from week to week in Leeds, Andrea Radritzani must take matters into his own hands this summer and try to sell the winger.
Costa suffered a nightmarish campaign in the Premier League this season for the team of Marcelo Bielsa, scoring only twice and providing only three assists in 22 games in the competition.
This led to former Leeds players like Noel Whelan, who simply waved him a “massive failure” and it’s hard to argue against that.
Given that Rafinha has been injured in recent weeks, Costa had the perfect opportunity to print his authoritative games and prove to Bielsa that he is a man the manager can count on.
Instead, he is his usual disappointment, and the last few Premier League games against Liverpool and Manchester United have even seen Biels turn to Ian Poveda from the bench.
And in response to a fan question from his questions and answers about the Manchester United match, Phil Hay of Athletic said: “Poveda is constantly having a good impact off the bench – but I’m still not sure if he seems ready to start. He is very good at upsetting the defenses with his pace and direct running later in the match – unbalanced defenses, as Bielsa would say – and I suspect we will see Costa start again.
“I still think the jury is very much on Costa. Roberts had a stronger second half. Costa should still shine consistently. “
As Football Insider recently said that Leeds are open to offers for a flop of £ 70,000 a week this summer, Radrizzani certainly needs to take a proactive approach to land it.
The report adds that whites do not expect to return the £ 15m they paid to sign it, and this can usually be seen by clubs trying to bargain in negotiations to get the best possible deal.
In the case of Costa, Radritzani might be wise not to push things too hard and risk a potential deal falling apart and leaving the Portuguese ace stuck on Eland Road next season.
Receiving some fee for him this summer, which can then be reinvested in the gaming team, would be a smart call from Radrizzani.
Meanwhile, Leeds must unleash this star who “got everything” …
