The end of the season may not come soon enough for Steve Bruce, his team in Newcastle and their long-suffering supporters.
They will not fall now unless they have suffered an all-powerful collapse in the last few days and Fulham has found some form that they have been missing so far from the 2020/21 campaign.
Whether or not they end the season with prosperity will hardly change the minds of some players who seem to want to leave the club.
One of them is the exciting and creative Alan Saint-Maximin. That’s according to Kevin Phillips, a former Sunderland hottot.
Not only that, but Phillips believes Saint-Maximin is the perfect player for Tottenham Hotspur.
“You could see him going to Tottenham.” From their point of view, it would be a great signature, “he told Football Insider.
“There will certainly be at least a dozen teams in the Premier League to take it.
“He is so unpredictable and has great talent. Although he had a problem with the injury, he improved as the season progressed.
“It simply came to our notice then. He becomes a complete player. This kid has the pace and ability to let go of his shoulder, to turn around.
“From Newcastle’s point of view, you’ll be devastated when you see him leave.” But of course, when you’re a star, everyone watches. “
If Saint-Maximin leaves the club, he will undoubtedly be followed by one or two others, leaving Bruce at a disadvantage before the new season.
Mike Ashley is unlikely to put his hand in his pocket as he still wants to sell the club, so 2021/22 seems likely to be another tough campaign for the Magpies.
