The Ghanaian and Cameroonian played to secure their team’s passage to the final at the expense of North Carolina Courage
Jennifer Cudjoe and Estelle Johnson helped Gotham advance to the 2021 National Women’s Soccer League Challenge Cup final after a 0-0 draw with Racing Louisville on Sunday.
Before the clash with Louisville, Ghana Cudjoe and Cameroonian Johnson had contributed well and Gotham led the East Region standings, having collected seven points in three games.
Freya Coombe handed Cudjoe her fourth appearance for her team, and she justified her inclusion with a nice display in their final group game against Louisville.
With just one point clear at the top, Gotham needed a win over Louisville, while the hopefuls and second-placed North Carolina Courage slipped against Orlando Pride to finish first.
At MSU Soccer Park, Gotham and Louisville couldn’t be separated in 90 minutes as they eventually split the loot.
With Orlando Pride forcing North Carolina Courage to a 0-0 draw, Gotham finished first with eight points – one over NC Courage.
In four group matches in Gotham, Ghana Cudjoe has made four appearances, while Cameroonian Johnson has played twice.
After progressing to the final, Gotham will fight on May 8 with Portland Thorns, who also won first place in the Western region, accumulating 10 points in four group stage games.
The African duo will be eager to put on their best performances as they look to celebrate national success with their NWSL outfit this quarter.
