Manchester United are set to reject any proposal for Donny van de Beek to leave Old Trafford with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer having the Dutch midfielder firmly in his plans according to The Sun.
The young midfielder has been linked with a return on loan to his former club Ajax after a slow first season with United where he struggled to get minutes under his belt.
With just two Premier League starts all season, the Dutch signing of £ 35million has undoubtedly been frustrated on the bench.
The light is shining at the end of the tunnel for the midfielder, with Ole ready to reject any exit proposal.
Van de Beek might be pessimistic about his chances given the lack of action he’s seen all season, but he doesn’t need to look far to see the progress that can be made after a slow first season at Old Trafford.
His midfield teammate, Fred, struggled similarly in the first season. After a poor start under Mourinho, things did not immediately improve for Fred with the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
With just seven starts in twenty-one Premier League appearances, which included a half-time crash after a dismal display against Everton, Fred United’s career seemed to be over before it started.
It was less than a year later, however, when Fred claimed his position as a mainstay in Ole’s midfield. Fred’s opinions had been completely overturned and he was even touted as Player of the Season by supporters and former players.
Such a remarkable turnaround can only be seen as a sign of optimism for Donny and the fans, for what could be next season.
With the recent brilliant sparks against Granada and Burnley, everyone at United is hoping these are the starting points for Donny van de Beek’s turnaround.
