Arsenal striker Katie McCabe has signed a new long-term contract with the Gunners, which will bring the Republic of Ireland an international stay at the club for the foreseeable future.
McCabe has been at Arsenal since 2015, joining Irish club Shelburn shortly after turning 20 and winning both the FA Cup and the Women’s Super League.
This season, McCabe helped the Gunners overcome the challenge of Manchester United to finish third in the WSL and secure Champions League football next season.
The 25-year-old has appeared in all of Arsenal’s WSL matches in 2020/21 and together leads the league in assists, with 11 in her name. She also scored four goals of her own.
“I love this club and I feel like we are in a really good place and we are ready to move on. “I’m glad it’s done and now I’m ready to start and help this club win more trophies,” McCabe told Arsenal.com.
“It’s amazing since I joined the club. There have been ups and downs along the way, but I feel like I’m in a really good place with the team we have, the players we have, and all the staff behind the scenes. I am really happy to commit to my future. “
Arsenal manager Joe Montemuro said: “Katie McCabe is one of the most important moments here in the last three or four years. It was an exciting project.
“She has faced every challenge since the day we repaid her from her loan, and I think she has just become a left-wing world-class player. She is honest, she embodies exactly what we want from our team. “
Arsenal will end the 2020/21 season with a home game against Aston Villa on Sunday, May 9, which will be Montemuro’s last leadership as he prepares to retire.
