Rooney should not repeat Bogle’s mistake

Wayne Rooney’s Derby County left-back Lee Buchanan has attracted interest in the Premier League ahead of the summer transfer window.

What are we talking about?

This is stated in a report by the Daily Mail, which claims that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal is considering a move for the defender with a rating of 1.8 million British pounds before the upcoming transfer market.

Although the report does not cite a figure on how much Derby will want for the 20-year-old, the fact that his current deal at Pride Park expires next summer could force the wrestlers to sell.

Should Derby sell Buchanan this summer?

Derby should not be repeated Bogle’s mistake

Although it has passed five times in the Championship, 2020/21 is undoubtedly Buchanan’s breakthrough campaign in Pride Park.

So far, the 20-year-old has made 34 appearances in the second tier, providing three assists and averaging one interception, 1.6 games and 0.4 key assists per game, culminating in a respectable average SofaScore rating of matches from 6.68.

And given how well the Under-21 Englishman has managed at the Championship level so soon after breaking into the first Derby team, it looks like the defender will continue to improve as he gains more experience in the league.

In fact, Rooney expressed his belief that Buchanan was already a “top player” and that he would “claim to be one of the best young left-backs in the country.”

As such, Derby must do its best to avoid a repeat of Jaden Bogle’s £ 3.47 million sale to Sheffield United last summer, when the Aries sold one of their brightest stars for just over half of its market value of 5 , 67 million pounds – and the right back now costs 6.3 million British pounds.

So, the season has come to an end, no matter in which league derby next year football is played, Rooney must make Buchanan’s signing of a new deal his absolute priority to keep one of the club’s most promising young players for as long as possible, as well as increasing its value in case the club wants to cash the defender at some point in the future.
