Stick or twist for Norwich as Vultures spin for a 14-goal ace

Norwich City face a dilemma of whether to take advantage of one of their best players this summer or build their Premier League campaign around him.

The Canaries will ply their trade in the English Premier League next season after winning the league title. Club bosses have decided to stick with manager Daniel Farke after relegation last quarter and it has paid off. The German tactician guided them to 29 wins and nine draws and they are eight points ahead of second-placed Watford.

A trip to Oakwell to take on Barnsley will set the stage for a superb second-tier campaign, and then the real hard work will begin. Farke knows only too well how difficult the Premier League is after finishing at its lowest in 2019-20.

He will have to work hard over the summer to make sure he has the players to stay in the top flight. Only once since the start of the Premier League have Norwich avoided immediate relegation.

It was during the 2012-13 campaign and they repeated the feat 12 months later. But that three-year cycle aside, the East Anglians have been the proverbial yo-yo club.

A man who played an important role in their success attacks the attacking midfielder Emiliano Buendia. The 24-year-old has started 38 league games for the Carrow Road side, scoring 14 goals.

He has also helped a lot of others and looks ready for another crack at the big time. Unsurprisingly, a number of clubs have taken note.

Footmercato suggest the former Argentina Under-20 ace is a target for Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, West Ham United and Leeds United.

Liverpool were linked last month and Norwich have a big decision to make. An initial asking price of £ 20million has now risen to around £ 40million.

It would be a significant influx of cash for a club the size of Norwich. Farke could use this money to strengthen other areas of his team.

But losing such an influential player would certainly throw the team off balance and could be counterproductive.

Buendia with a point to prove

The former Getafe man made 36 appearances in Norwich’s relegation season. He was nowhere near as effective and, having only scored once, will look to correct that in 2021-2022.

But it may be that the allure of potentially playing European football could make his head spin. Leeds is believed to be perhaps at the top of the queue due to the influence of manager Marcelo Bielsa.

The Whites are playing exciting attacking football under the guidance of his compatriot and it could be in the rue de Buendia. Whether or not that happens, only time will tell, but there are a lot of puzzles for the player and the club to solve before next season.
